Effect of xylitol on gastric emptying. Data are expressed as mean ± SEM. N=12 (5 men and 7 women). Kinetic data was analyzed by non-linear regression analysis using a modified Ghoose model for gastric emptying [18]. Statistical tests: Linear mixed-effects modeling followed by Šidak post-hoc test in case of overall significance. Goodness of fit is indicated by the coefficient of determination R2: placebo R2 = 0.992, 7 g xylitol R2 = 0.995, 17 g xylitol R2 = 0.995, 35 g xylitol R2 = 0.999. Results of the statistical analysis are shown in Table 2.
