In this model, fewer heterochromatic nuclei are detected, along with increased histone acetylation and decreased histone methylation in OLs [177]; The stimulation of neuronal activity enhances myelination and is associated with a repressive chromatin state. OPC nuclei show decreased histone acetylation and increased histone methylation levels [22]; neuronal activity also modifies DNA methylation and histone acetylation and methylation marks in neurons.
