Note that DMS modification produces a reverse-transcription stop site one nucleotide prior to the modified site (A1408) and dideoxy sequencing stop sites. (B) Calculated % protection of N1 of A1408 is shown with increasing concentration of 4 (standard error is for three independent experiments).
