Assessment of scaffold permeability. (a) Schematic of the transwell design showing confluent smooth muscle cell (SMCs) in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s media (DMEM) + serum on the scaffold surface inside the transwell and DMEM without serum on the outside of the transwell. (b) Aliquots of medium were collected from the outside of the transwell at the indicated times in hours. Equal volumes of medium were separated on an 8% polyacrylamide-SDS gel and proteins were detected by silver staining.
