Representative images of Masson’s Trichrome stained sections showing a) untreated, b) CH and c) BH treated abscesses close to the inner portion of the capsule (white dashed lines) at i) low and ii) high magnification. A well-defined border in the untreated abscess shows organized collagen fibers and intact vessels within the capsule and a dense collection of inflammatory cells in the adjacent regions inside the abscess cavity. Vessel damage (white arrow heads), with blood leakage and thrombosis, can be observed in the fibrous capsules of both BH and CH treated abscesses. The cells in the abscess cavity close to the capsule are homogenized and fragmented collagen fibers (black arrow head) torn away from capsule can also be seen. The damage did not extend to the outer regions of the capsule.
