Representative images of Masson’s Trichrome stained sections showing a) untreated, b) CH and c) BH treated abscesses at i) low and ii) high magnification. The pus in the untreated abscess consisted of a mix of inflammatory cells, degrading inflammatory cells, tissue pieces and proteinaceous material. At higher magnification cellular structure can still be observed even for the degrading inflammatory cells. In the treated abscesses, there were some larger regions of homogenized cells with a generally well-defined border for both the CH (yellow dashed line) and BH (yellow dotted lines). Smaller collections of homogenized pus (black arrowheads) was present outside of the main lesion. Within the lesions there was presence of damaged tissue (white arrowheads) and collagen (white arrows).
