The numbers of neutrophils in a ×400 field of middle ear (ME) infiltrate. In wild-type (WT) ME, the number of neutrophils was highest at day 2 of NTHi inoculation, and neutrophils cleared from the ME by day 7. In CCR2−/−/PBS mice, the number of neutrophils was highest at day 3. There were significantly more neutrophils in the ME infiltrates of the CCR2−/−/CL mice at day 3 than in WT mice.
