Dietary I3C exacerbates insulitis in NOD mice. (A) Schematic of experimental design. From 7 to 12 weeks of age, NOD mice were maintained on a synthetic AhR ligand-free diet or diet supplemented with 2,000 ppm I3C. Stool samples were collected at 7, 8, and 12 weeks of age (at the time of sacrifice). Food consumption (B) and body weight (C) were measured weekly. (D) In two independent experiments, insulitis was scored as no infiltration, less than 50%, and greater than 50% of islets infiltrated. Data are presented as the average from each mouse per group.
