Gibbs free energy of solvation (ΔGsolv) calculated using Equation (1) for singly and doubly substituted Cy5 dyes in (a) water and (b) pyridine, quinoline, and isoquinoline. Singly and doubly substituted Cy5 dyes were made by adding the given substituent pair to the R positions in Figure 1. For doubly substituted Cy5, two of the same substituent were added on the same side of the dye. All calculations were performed using the M06-2X functional.
