Gene expression changes on plaque CD68+ cells

Apoe−/− and APOA1tg/tg/Apoe−/− male and female mice were fed Western diet for 12 or 16 weeks, respectively. After this period, a subset of mice was sacrificed (baseline), and the rest of the mice were fed chow diet (control diet) or chow diet containing 900 mg/kg of the ACAT inhibitor F1394 (ACAT inhibitor diet for 4 extra weeks. Total mRNA was isolated from CD68+ cells in atherosclerotic lesions using LCM on lesions present at the level of the aortic root. The expressions of proinflammatory gene markers and anti-inflammatory gene markers are represented. Hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase was used as housekeeping control gene.
