NLRP3 inflammasome structure. The NLRP3 inflammasome is a complex consisting of NLRP3, ASC, and procaspase-1. NLRP3 consists of three regions: the pyrin domain (PYD) in the amino terminus, the NACHT domain, and the leucine-rich repeat domain (LRR) in the carboxy terminus. NLRP3 recruits ASCs through PYD-PYD interactions. In turn, procaspase-1 is recruited by ASC through CARD-CARD interactions to form the NLRP3-ASC-procaspase-1 inflammasome
