Key figure showing a schematic of cofilin-mediated apoptosis (Li et al., 2013). UA, AITC, etoposide and arnidiol induce apoptosis through the cofilin pathway. Activated cofilin translocates to the outer mitochondrial membrane and interacts with Drp1, induces mitochondrial fission and promotes cytochrome C release, finally leading to apoptosis.
