HO1 overexpression promotes gluconeogenesis dependent on Foxo1 in vivo. A and B: AAV8-GFP or AAV8-HO1 was delivered via retro-orbital to male mice (8–12 weeks old). Blood glucose after 16 h of fasting or underfeeding conditions was measured 8 days after the virus injection. n = 4–7 mice/group. Results are presented as mean ± SEM. C and D: AAV8-GFP or AAV8-HO1 was delivered via retro-orbital to male mice (8–12 weeks old) for 7 days. The mice were fasted for 16 h and then subjected to a 2-h pyruvate tolerance test (8 days postinjection, 2 g/kg body weight pyruvate i.p. injection) and glucagon tolerance test (11 days postinjection, 16 μg/kg body weight glucagon i.p. injection). The area under the curve (AUC) of each profile was calculated. n = 5–7 mice/group. Results are presented as mean ± SEM.
