(A–D) Wing disc with a shits clone stained for DNA (blue), Vg (red), and En (white). A large patch of cells within the clone that does not stain for DNA and loses Vg and En expression appears to have extruded from the epithelium. (E–G) Wing disc with a large shits clone stained for DNA (blue) and DrIce (red). Pyknotic nuclei within the clone correspond to DrIce positive cells (arrows), indicating that some shits cells undergo apoptosis.
