The roles played by eicosanoids and lipoxins in regulating the death of infected macrophages. The balance between prostanoid and lipoxin production is the dictator of the modality of death in Mtb infected macrophages. Increased production of LXA4 induces necrosis; whereas, excess production of PGE2 inhibits necrosis and favors apoptosis. Adapted from (Behar et al., 2011).
