For both longwave (a) and shortwave radiation (b) and for all network sizes, violin plots of the absolute errors per spectral band of the downwelling surface fluxes with respect to RRTMGP. The radiative flux per spectral band is the integral of the radiative fluxes over the 16 g-points of each band. For each network size, the minimum errors in (b) are on the order of 10−13 and correspond to the spectral band with the shortest wavelength, which is almost completely absorbed in the stratosphere.
