Aberrant AQP7 expression alters lipid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, nucleotide synthesis, and urea/arginine metabolism. With high intracellular glycerol or active AQP7, cells increase p38 signaling, NO, and oxidative tolerance. With low intracellular glycerol conditions or decreased AQP7 expression, cells increase phospho-mTOR signaling, making them potentially more susceptible to mTOR inhibitors.
