Principle of conventional (top) and rolling SIM (bottom) reconstructions. In conventional SIM reconstruction, the reconstruction of the second super-resolution (SR) image uses frames 10-18 whereas rolling SIM reconstruction uses frames 2-10. With the same data set, rolling SIM can reconstruct eight additional SR images using frames 2-10, 3-11, 4-12 etc. up until 10-18.
