Changing cell’s redox balance (NAD +/NADH) resulting from lactate conversion to pyruvate augments reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in differentiated C2C12 myotubes and mature skeletal muscle. The enhanced levels of ROS activate ERK1/2/mTOR/p70S6K signaling pathway, thereby increasing autophagy in skeletal muscle
