Cytokinin types. Cytokinins are N6-derivatives of adenine either with isoprenoid or aromatic side chains. A hydroxyl group further differentiates zeatins from isopentenyladenine and topolins from benzyladenine. Further, kinetin is an aromatic cytokinin and 6-(3-methylpyrrol-1-yl)purine is at the borderline of isoprenoid and aromatic cytokinins, because it has an aromatic side chain but originates from trans-zeatin. Methoxytopolins exist in analogous isomers as topolins.
