Generation of the integrin α4β1 protein model. The process of generating a working integrin α4β1 receptor protein model was as follows: (A) The α4β7 resolved head domain model (PDB code 3V4V) and (B) the α5β1 resolved head domain model (PDB code 4WK2) were utilized as templates for α4 and β1 subunits, respectively. (C) The β1 subunit (4WK2) was mapped using the ITB1_human peptide sequence and the β7 subunit (3V4V) as references, to generate a β1 subunit model in active conformation. (D) The α4 (3V4V) and newly generated β1 model subunits (left image) were compiled into a single α4β1 integrin model (right image) with H-bonds and metal ions (green spheres).
