Figure 5

The effect of Kaempferol, present in two different Cu–Kaempferol molar ratios (5:1 and 1:1), on the formation of free radicals by means of a copper-catalyzed Fenton reaction. (a) Experimental EPR spectra obtained in the system CuCl2/H2O2/DMPO/DMSO–H2O (1:4; v:v) under an air atmosphere, without (Ref) or with Kaempferol. (b) The total concentration of DMPO spin adduct concentration monitored in DMSO/water (1:4; v:v) solution of CuCl2 alone (Ref) or in the presence of Kaempferol containing DMPO spin trapping agent after the addition of hydrogen peroxide. Initial concentrations: c(CuCl2) = 0.2 mM; c(Kaempferol) = 0/0.04/0.2 mM; c(DMPO) = 0.02 M; c(H2O2) = 0.01 M. EPR parameters: DMPO-OH (aN = 1.486 mT, aHβ = 1.438 mT; g = 2.0057); DMPO-O2 (aN = 1.464 mT, aHβ = 1.138 mT, aHγ = 0.193 mT; g = 2.0057); DMPO-CH3 (aN = 1.558 mT, aHβ = 2.232 mT; g = 2.0056).
