Level of WBNV infection was highest in anterior midgut (top panel). Green fluorescence indicating WBNV N protein increased in midgut 12 days post acquisition. Infection of longitudinal and circular muscle cells of the midgut was evident by presence of green fluorescence (middle panel). No FITC green fluorescence was observed in the midgut of aviruliferous T. palmi (bottom panel).
