Twenty-five residues surrounding CTP are colored according to the number of different types of amino acids observed at the corresponding sites in forty-six viperins or VLEs from the six kingdoms (Figure S6). Sites showing absolute conservation or predicted conservative substitutions are colored magenta, high conservation with one predicted non-conservative substitution colored blue, moderate conservation with two to four predicted non-conservative substitutions colored green, and variable with five or more predicted non-conservative substitutions colored orange red.
