Schematic illustration showing the fluorescence increase of genetically encoded G protein coupled receptor-activation-based-DA sensor (GRABDA) in response to extracellular DA. When DA is released from vesicles, it binds to the GRABDA receptor. The subsequent conformational change in the receptor alters the arrangement of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) associated with the receptor, resulting in a DA-dependent change in fluorescence.
