Nobiletin effectively restores the viability of cortical neurons under CI inhibition. (A, B) The changes in viability of cortical neurons. Primary cortical neurons dissociated from rat brains were pretreated with (or without) nobiletin (NOB) for 1 hour and then incubated with rotenone (ROT, 0.5 μM) or antimycin A (AA, 0.5 μM) for 24 hours. Neuronal viability was measured using an MTT assay. Nobiletin pretreatment effectively restored the neuronal viability under CI inhibition (ROT+, NOB+) but not CIII inhibition (AA+, NOB+). Data indicate the mean±S.E. *p<0.05 and **p<0.01, compared with non-treated group; ††p<0.01, compared with rotenone alone.
