Effect of CARD9 deficiency on neutrophil accumulation in the lungs after pneumococcal infection. Mice were infected intratracheally with pneumococcus. Lung sections obtained at 24 h after infection were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) and observed under optical microscopy. Representative pictures of three or four mice are shown. Original magnification, ×400. Neutrophil accumulation was significantly diminished in CARD9 KO mice (A), but not in dectin-2 KO mice (B), compared to that in each genotype’s respective control mice.
