Hypoxia promotes the expression and secretion of Gal‐3 by lung cancer cells. A549 lung cancer cells were cultured under hypoxic or normoxic conditions for 24 h, as described in the Materials and methods. Then, the cell culture medium was collected, and the levels of Gal‐3 were evaluated by ELISA. The results showed that hypoxia significantly increased the expression and secretion of Gal‐3. All experiments were performed in triplicate, and the data are shown as the mean ± SEM. (*P = 0.000, by two‐tailed t‐test).
