Effects of curcumin on acetic acid-induced writhing. ICR mice were treated with i.p. vehicle or curcumin (10 or 30 mg/kg) 45 min prior to i.p. acetic acid (1.2%) injection. Animals were observed for 40 minutes for the number of typical stretching behaviors. To test blockade of the antinociceptive effect of curcumin in the writhing test, the α7 antagonist methyllycaconitine citrate (MLA, 10 mg/kg, s.c.) was given 10 min before curcumin (30 mg/kg, i.p.) or vehicle. After 45 min, acetic acid writhing test was performed. Data are given as the mean ± S.E.M. of 8 animals for each group.
