We hypothesize that preeclampsia exerts its effects on heart rate primarily through baroreceptor reflex response to elevated blood pressure, leading to a decrease in heart rate. In addition, preeclampsia may be associated with end-organ damage that can lead to sympathetic stress response and an increase in heart rate.
