Schematic diagram for the role of PPM1B to regulate DYRK1A. PPM1B binds to DYRK1A and dephosphorylates its Ser258 residue, which was identified as the novel autophosphorylation site of Dyrk1A. Consequently, PPM1B decreases the kinase activity of DYRK1A, causing reduction of toxic tau phosphorylation at Thr212 residue and its neuronal toxicity in hippocampal progenitor H19-7 cells.
