Anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of curcumin. Curcumin can enhance the level of GLP-1 to improve glucose tolerance and reduce triglycerides by regulating the level of lipoproteins. It can also control insulin resistance by lowering blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels. These effects can ultimately delay the progression of diabetes and DR by down-regulating serum cholesterol and lipid peroxides.
