Hybrid origin is the main driver of high heterozygosity in parthenogenetic species. Heterozygosity estimates with respect to hybrid origin (x-axis) and cellular mechanism of parthenogenesis (color code). Whenever possible, heterozygosity is decomposed into heterozygosity between alleles of intraspecific origin versus heterozygosity between homoeologs of hybrid origin (shapes). Composite heterozygosity covers the cases where the 2 cannot be distinguished. Species with a possible shared origin of parthenogenesis are grouped in gray ellipses. Nematode genus abbreviations: Pl: Plectus, Mes: Mesorhabditis, D: Diploscapter, Pa: Panagrolaimus, A: Acrobeloides, Mel: Meloidogyne. The estimates for each species are listed in Supplementary Table 2, species names for the silhouettes are indicated in Figure 1.
