MJ enhances chemosensitivity of tumor cells. Tumor cells (1 × 105 cell/ml) cells were incubated in medium alone or containing MJ in the presence or absence of cisplatin for 18 h followed by estimation of the cytotoxicity (A) as described in the materials and methods. Tumor cells (1 × 105 cell/ml) incubated in medium alone or containing MJ in the presence or absence of cisplatin for 18 h were analyzed for apoptotic cell population by flow cytometry using Annexin-V/PI staining as described in the materials and methods. The flow cytometric image (B) is from a representative experiment out of three independent experiments with similar results. The bar diagram accompanying the flow cytometric images depicts the mean ± SD of the % of cells. *p < 0.05 vs. respective control. In a parallel set of experiments, the cell lysates of control and MJ-treated tumor cells (1 × 105 cell/ml) were analyzed for expression of MDR1. Bands (C) are from a representative experiment out of three with a similar pattern. The accompanying bar diagrams are densitometric analysis of the bands (C). Values shown are mean ± SD. *p < 0.05 vs. respective control.
