Paraspinal compression maneuver. An imaginary line is drawn horizontally between the tops of the iliac crests. The intersection point where the midline passes through the imaginary line vertically is marked. A total of 6 spots are marked. The first 2 spots are placed 2 finger widths laterally and 1 finger width below the intersect point. The second 2 spots are placed 1 finger width below the first spots. A, The third set of 2 spots is placed 1 finger width below the second spots. B, The examiner presses each spot with both thumbs. A positive sign of this maneuver is a definite sharp pain on 1 side and no pain on the other side.
