Changes in the taurine content of the skin in rats. Skin samples were excised from the backs of SD rats, and the taurine content was determined in the epidermis (a), dermis (b) and sole (c) by HPLC. Values represent the mean ± SE of 7–10 animals. The values were significantly different from those in 6-week-old mice (**p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001) and those in 12-week-old mice (##p < 0.01, ###p < 0.001), determined by ANOVA (Dunnett’s test)
