Combination with 131I improved therapeutic effect of virotherapy

(A) A549-bearing mice were treated with a single Ad injection alone or in combination with 131I (administrated 3 days p.i.). Two groups served as controls (PBS alone and PBS plus 131I). Both Cox2-NIS-ADP(+)and Cox2-NIS-ADP(–) in combination with 131I reduced tumor burden compared to PBS plus 131I. Combination therapies improved tumor control over virus alone (∗p < 0.05; ∗∗∗p < 0.001; ∗∗∗∗p < 0.0001; NS, not significant). (B) On day 11 p.i., radioactivity measured in tumor and uninvolved muscle and presented as relative 131I uptake (tumor CPM/muscle CPM). Cox2-NIS-ADP(–) trended toward higher radioiodine uptake over control. Error bars represent standard error.
