Breeding scheme using the Cre-lox system to generate mice expressing kinase-dead Atm in the CNS or specifically in PCs. The animals are compound heterozygotes at the Atm locus: one allele is floxed and the other expresses kinase-dead protein (AtmKD). The floxed allele is inactivated by the Cre recombinase, which is expressed in the CNS when driven by the Nestin promoter, or in PCs under the control of the Pcp2 promoter.
