Antioxidants inhibit albendazole-induced ROS production. PC3 and DU145 cells were treated with a combination of albendazole and GSH or NAC. (A) Cellular ROS levels were measured using a fluorescence spectrometer after incubating with DCFH-DA (n=4). Treatment with 0.5 µM albendazole increased ROS production in PC3 and D145 cells, while combination treatment with GSH or NAC decreased ROS production. (B) Proliferative potential of PC3 and DU145 cells was assessed using an MTT assay (n=6). Treatment with 0.5 µM albendazole significantly decreased PC3 and D145 cell viability; these effects were offset by treatment with GSH and NAC. *P<0.05, **P<0.01 and ***P<0.001.
