After FDR correction (<0.05), a total of 93 and 142 miRNAs were differentially expressed in cord blood and placental tissue respectively. Twenty sex-specific miRNAs were found in either tissue. In detail, 19 miRNAs including miR-6727-5p, miR-4442, miR-4281, miR-6780b-5p, miR-1207-5p, miR-2861, miR-3656, miR-4505, miR-4516, miR-1268b, miR-4739, miR-6786-5p, miR-6088, miR-638, miR-6803-5p, miR-663a, miR-4543, miR-6821-5 and miR-6086, were significantly lower expressed in girls compared to boys in either tissue. However, only one overlapped miRNA in both studies, namely miR-452-5p, was found to be significantly differentially expressed in opposite sexes
