Gross pathology and histopathology of the lungs of mink infected with human (H1N1/pdm and H3N2) and avian (H5N6, H7N9, and H9N2) influenza viruses at 4 dpi. Lungs of mink with H1N1/pdm, H9N2, and H7N9 influenza virus infections showed mild to moderate pulmonary consolidation with varying degrees of bronchitis. Few remarkable pathological findings were obtained from the lungs of mink infected with the H3N2 virus. In contrast, the H5N6 influenza virus caused severe lesions with extensive pulmonary consolidation, peribronchiolitis and bronchopneumonia characterised by oedema and infiltration of inflammatory cells.
