Virus replication in mink infected with avian and human influenza viruses. Mink were inoculated intranasally with 106 TCID50 of indicated viruses. Three mink per group were euthanised at 4 dpi, and samples of nasal turbinate, trachea, lung, spleen, liver, kidney, intestine and cerebrum were collected from each mink for virus titration by TCID50 assays on MDCK cells. Systemic spread of H5N6 virus was detected in all organs examined. All values shown are means ± SD from three independent experiments for each sample. Dashed lines indicate the lower limits of detection.
