Figure 10. Brain nuclei receiving Brn3cCre/WT; ROSA26tdTomato/WT neuronal projections.

Figure 10

Coronal sections through Brn3cCre/WT; ROSA26tdTomato/WT mouse brains (200 μm thickness) were used to identify nuclei receiving neurites but not containing tdTomato+ cell bodies. Stippled lined insets in b–e are shown below each panel at higher magnification. (a) Optic Chiasm and Suprachiasmatic nucleus. No axons enter the SCN. (b1) ventral and dorsal Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (vLGN and dLGN) and intergeniculate leaflet (IGL). (b2) zona incerta (ZI). (b3) lateral posterior thalamic nucleus, mediorostral part (LPMR) (c1) medial geniculate nucleus. (c2) pontine reticular nucleus. (c3, d3) Zonal and superficial gray layers of the SC (Zo and Sug). (d1) Principal sensory trigeminal nucleus (Pr5). (d2) paralemniscal nucleus. (d4) pontine reticular nucleus. (d5) Larger image showing laminar distribution of nuclei in the intermediate/deep layers of the SC. Scale bar: 100 microns. (e1) spinal trigeminal. (e2) gigantocellular reticular nucleus. (e3) medial vestibular nucleus. Brain scale bars: 500 microns. Insets scale bar: 50 microns.
