Data augmentation: PCA is used to compute the PCA scores {zn}n=1N of the training shape samples {xn}n=1N. Augmented samples zs are randomly drawn from a collection of multivariate Gaussian distributions Kσn(z), each with a training example zn as the mean and covariance σ2IL. The correspondences xs are used to compute a TPS warp to map xn to xs, which is used to warp the respective image yn to a new image ys with known shape parameters zs.
