Bacteria and HIE nuclei appear blue, scale = 25 μm. Both strains of bacteria destroy the HIE monolayer in static culture, but do not in the flow condition (top three panels). Co-infection with commensal bacteria reduces EAEC biofilm formation (comparison of the bottom two panels). Images shown are representative of results from three independent experimental runs.
