1. To reduce the degree of fat embolization

2. To clear the medullary canal of bone marrow/reaming debris

3. To size the medullary canal (IM implant or prosthesis)

4. For bone graft harvesting

5. For removal of tissue from IM canal (e.g. treatment of IM infection)
