ESI-MS of C-peptide incubated with 1 equiv of Zn(II) (blue) and the resulting spectrum when 1 equiv of Cu(II) (purple) is added to the same solution. δ signifies the isotopic mass shift of the most intense peak present for C-peptide. Comparison of the spectra demonstrate the ability of Cu(II) to outcompete Zn(II) for C-peptide binding. Solutions were prepared in nanopure water at 50 μM C-peptide.
