Farnesyl or geranylgeranyl moieties are transferred to the carboxy terminus of Gγ from FPP and GGPP with the aid of either farnesyl or geranylgeranyl transferases, respectively. The last three amino acids are subsequently cleaved off from the CAAX motif by RCE1 and is followed by a methyl group addition to the new C terminus.
