The mousebrain.org database was used to identify cell types of expression in the mouse nervous system (brain neurons and glia have been collapsed to two lines at the base of the plot for clarity) for orthologues of genes identified in this study. Trinarization score (posterior probability of detection in a particular cell type) was used, rather than expression levels. The analysis was carried out for 25 genes selected from the male-specific (n = 14) and female-specific (n = 11; note that Dcc appears in both lists) MCP-associated sets as being enriched for neural tissue expression (neural proportion score > 0.5, S4 and S5 Tables). While most of these show pan-neuronal expression, a few are expressed in mouse glial subpopulations (Cdhr4), primarily in CNS neurons (Gabrb2), primarily in DRG neurons (Amigo3), or in limited subsets of neurons (Dcc, Slc4a10, Camkv).
