WD40 has additive and synergistic activity with antibiotics in P. aeruginosa (strain PA14). Checkerboard assays were used to determine the fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs) of the tested potentiator-antibiotic pairs. FIC is the MIC of the compound in combination divided by the MIC of the compound alone. Fractional inhibitory concentration indices (FICIs) are calculated by summing FICWD40 and FICAntibiotic to determine if the pairing is synergistic (FICI ≤ 0.5, blue area in graph), additive (0.5 < FICI ≤ 4.0, gray area in graph), or antagonistic (FICI > 4.0, area not shown in graph).
